“Having a sudden hearing loss can be quite traumatizing. As I can speak for myself waking up one morning and losing hearing from one ear is quite alarming. After 4 months and four “specialists “ in hearing loss had pretty much given up on my left ear , I was resigned to accept the prescription of a cross-over hearing aid, and see Dr. Recher for a fitting. All I can say, is that he is a people person who will listen to your personal story, take your wishes and hopes into consideration to try and find the best solution for your particular hearing problem. We are in the middle of experimenting with a dual ear hearing aid, which boosts the frequencies that are still tangible in my “deaf” ear, giving me hope that my life will still be in stereo rather than mono. We connected on the love of music, the love of playing and singing with our guitars. I walked out of there with the first sense of hope since the onset of my condition. During our initial telephone consultation, I had decided to make an appointment but then he informed me his practice was in Richmond Hill and I would be traveling from Suffolk County - nearly 50 miles. I was so disappointed but decided traveling almost 50 miles to see him was a bit extreme so I started looking for another audiologist in my area.
