“I came here a few years back. I had tried hearing aids in the past, and have had hearing tests many times over the years. I abused my hearing my whole life, and have repeated the word “huh” thousands of times. Never was able to get any benefit out of previous attempts. I came here, and had the most thorough hearing test ever. Not only that, I got a very extensive explanation of what hearing aids could do for me. Vanessa explained how she could adjust the device to match my hearing loss, but it was going to take some work on my part to “learn” how to hear again. How my brain had forgotten how to understand the sounds I was hearing and turn it back into words. Wow, what an experience it has been. I’m still trying to learn not to say “I can’t hear you”, but instead to say “ I didn’t understand what you said”. Vanessa set me up in a computer program that is helping me. I admit I don’t use it as much as I should, but it does help. Let me make it simple.
