“Very comprehensive testing process to evaluate my hearing loss. Great team---at front desk: Ayame--friendly and efficient and welcoming! And the good Doctor Alsbury is lovely. She was kind and patient and very warm. She made me know she was really listening and was so fully explanatory in all the details about which I inquired. Recommending this fine team will be my pleasure.”
“I had the honor of working with Dr. Shannon Clemons to help me with my hearing loss and she was extremely knowledgeable about hearing aids and what bests suits me as a musician. I definitely feel that I am a part of a very special family of audiologist. Outstanding services and outstanding level of professionalism. ”
“We had a great experience with Dr. Levy and her office. She is professional, warm, very thorough in her exam and explanation of the exam results. My family will continue to see her for any of our hearing needs. ”
“I loved seeing Dr. Levy as she was knowledgeable and thorough. However when I attempted to schedule an appointment with her recently her scheduler said I had to have a referral from my primary doctor despite the fact that I have a Medicare Supplemental PPO plan that specifically states that no referrals are necessary to see a specialist. In an effort to avoid any unpleasantness, I called my primary and requested a referral. They told me it was unnecessary with my insurance but that they would send the scheduler a note. When I spoke to the scheduler a second time, she was not helpful and insisted that I could not see Dr. Levy without the referral. As a result, I will find another audiology office that knows the rules concerning Medicare Supplemental PPO plans. ”
Received 09/02/2020Official Response from Professional Hearing Associates - Oceanside:“We apologize for any misunderstanding and inconvenience that the scheduling of your diagnostic hearing exam may have caused you. As a Medicare provider since 1984 we do our best to make sure we adhere to all of their guidelines for our specific specialty. We understand that Medicare PPO plans provide flexibility to choose where you would like to be seen, and you are correct that you do not need a “referral” to do so, as you would with a Medicare Advantage HMO plan. However, Medicare has been subject to fraud in the past; therefore they do require that we have proof of necessity for a hearing test, in order to submit a claim on your behalf. We have been directly advised by Medicare that we must have proof of necessity for a hearing test from a medical physician before proceeding with the test in order to receive compensation. Without this, Medicare may not pay the claim, at which time the patient is responsible for 100% of the billed amount. In the “Medicare & You” 2020 Handbook, page 39, under Hearing and balance exams, the handbook states, “Medicare covers these exams if your doctor or other health care provider orders them to see if you need medical treatment.” This order is not a "referral", but a statement by a medical physician written on a prescription pad, letterhead, or in your chart notes that indicates you need a hearing test due to medical necessity. We strive to avoid billing patients for 100% of their exam if at all possible. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience and would be happy to see you for a diagnostic hearing exam with an order from your doctor. Alternately, a complementary (free) hearing screening does not require any referral or order. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please give our office a call. ”
“Being exposed to Professional Hearing Associates has been a real "plus" for me. I have tried other companies in an effort to find a hearing aid that would work for me; even after spending thousands of dollars and making numerous office visits, all of the previous companies have failed me, and essentially, after running out of excuses, "just gave up". After being exposed to the staff at Professional Hearing Associates and their product offerings, I am now wearing my new hearing aides with zero discomfort. What really impressed was the time the staff took to ensure that I was 100% satisfied with my new hearing aids (both fit and performance); we even took walks outside the office to determine what, if any, differences would be noticed. I was taken back by the new sounds that I could now hear. The subsequent follow-up visits helped to "fine tune" and adjust the inner "pig tail loop" to ensure that the hearing aids stayed in place. If I had any questions about my new hearing aids, the doctor or staff member would call me back within 1-2 hours, and address by issues. I can not say enough about the doctor and staff, and their follow-up; they truly care about the patient. Professional Hearing Associates clearly believes in "walking the talk" and makes it their Number 1 Priority to ensure that the patient is 100% satisfied; no exceptions! Would I recommend Professional Hearing Associates? Absolutely! A Thousand Thanks, Frank”
