“I went to this place because of my insurance. Got the test and had to go to one of their their recommended Ent Drs. He ordered an MRI of my brain and suggested I had a tumor in my middle ear that could grow into the brain. The MRI was negative but I didn’t find out for 4 agonizing days and I know for a fact the report was on the ENT’s desk the second day. He was curt when he finally called me at 10pm the fourth night and only after I had called his service asking him to call. Finally I have to go back to Tru Hearing to get fitted. I was there for over an hour going through the process and they ordered the devices to fit my ears, supposedly. About two weeks later they called and I went to get them. They did not fit after all they put me through. Then I was told that I would have to have custom ones made and that would be more money. I was not happy. I told them up front my ear canals were small and with all the fitting I went through, I guess they missed that. They are incompetent. They even told my insurance Co that I had the devices sent back. They sent them back and didn’t tell my insurance Co. that they screwed up on the technique of fitting them. These people are not trustworthy and the manager claims to be a physician who can’t tell the size of an ear canal. I guess they don’t provide ear devices for children. After all that time I have nothing. I should have been told right away that they had nothing to fit me and not wasted my time and traumatized me by suggesting a brain tumor. I would not recommend them.”

Official Response from Hearing Consultants - Lake St. Louis:
“We are sorry you were disappointed in your experience. It is always disappointing to find that at an initial fitting an adjustment to the initial plan may need to be made. We are unable to comment further due to privacy laws on individual cases. TruHearing is a large corporation who contracts with many providers and they are always happy to provide many options for their members to pursue further care at other facilities. To clarify and not in particular to this case, we are not affiliated with any ENTs or physicians, though we do often print off a list of area physicians that are covered by a patient's insurance plan for their convenience if red flags in testing are raised according to American Speech Language and Hearing Association recommendations for referral to Otolaryngologist (ENT) specialist to rule out retrocochlear causes of hearing loss. As a general rule, we also routinely recommend that our patients follow up on their hearing tests with their primary care physicians. Those primary care physicians or ENT/otolaryngologists may order further testing. An audiologist cannot order an MRI. As per State and Federal recommendations, we request medical clearance if red flags for retrocochlear loss are present, at which point, we may discuss local physicians, otherwise, we are in no way affiliated with any ENTs or other physicians.”
