“Things were fine until I requested a written explanation of test findings as verbally presented to me. Then things went south. I was told there was "no template to do that" and their laptop did not hold the ability to interpret the findings in a form other than the graph. What other questions did I have after everything had been explained? When I questioned what the potential costs of hearing aids would be I was told I would need another visit because I was "already overwhelmed" with all the information that had been presented. I was overwhelmed with the fact that my patient's right to have a written report in terms I could understand were violated. I felt as if I was treated like a child who had done something wrong by asking for a written explanation of findings. Three months have come and gone and I still feel the sting from the encounter and the tone of voice used in response to my request. With a doctorate degree, research has taught me how to handle large amounts of information. But through common sense I know when my intelligence has been insulted, when my rights have been violated and when my heart has been wounded. I wouldn't send a dog to this place, or perhaps a dog would receive a more gentle experience.”
