Audiologist

Dr. Kate Johnson is a skilled audiologist specializing in services such as cochlear implants, adult diagnostics, and hearing aids. She has a deep passion for adult cochlear implantation and is well-trained to assist individuals with severe to profound hearing loss. Dr. Johnson is dedicated to supporting patients throughout the entire cochlear implant journey, from initial evaluation to activation and ongoing follow-up care. Her research interests focus on patient outcomes and quality of life in cochlear implant recipients.

After completing her graduate studies at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Dr. Johnson joined the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and exploring the mountains.

Dr. Niki Barwick is a trained Audiologist, and provides services diagnosing, managing, and treating hearing and inner ear balance disorders. She specializes in: Adult and pediatric hearing diagnostic testing, newborn hearing screenings, ototoxicity monitoring, adult and child hearing aid evaluations and counseling, programming and fitting hearing aids to target real-ear measures, diagnosis and management of tinnitus, cerumen removal, custom fit hearing protection, and diagnosis and treatment of BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo).

She enjoys helping people live the best version of themselves by addressing their ear issues and providing lifelong follow-up care. She loves working with children and adults and always goes the extra mile for her patients. She especially loves hearing about her patient's lives. Her research interests include: Patient quality of life, tinnitus, vertigo, and training Audiology students.

Dr. Barwick graduated with honors from the University of Utah with her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences in 2002 and with her Master in Science in Audiology in 2004. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Doctor of Audiology degree from Salus University in 2010. She joined the University of Utah Farmington Audiology Clinic in 2016. Before that, she completed her clinical fellowship year at the VAMC in Portland, OR and had the honor of treating Veterans and worked with the NCRAR (National Center for Rehabilitative Audiology Research) helping with a tinnitus treatment protocol now used at all VA centers nationwide. She also implemented a pocket talker program at the VA for inpatient and outpatient use so all the patients could communicate effectively with their physicians, nurses, and family. She spent clinical rotations at Primary Children's Medical Center, Utah School for the Deaf and Blind, and the Salt Lake VAMC. Previously, she was the Director of Audiology for a busy multi location ENT office and was the co-owner of three Audiology hearing and balance clinics.

She loves spending time with her 2 young boys, family and friends. She enjoys hiking, swimming, reading, and organizing and volunteering for charity events in the community.

Dr. Bergen graduated with honors from the Utah State University with his Bachelor of Science degree in Communicative Disorders in 2006 and he graduated Magna Cum Laude with his Doctor of Audiology degree from Utah State University in 2010. He completed his Externship year at Mountain West ENT with Dr. Niki Barwick as his clinical supervisor.

Dr. Bergen grew up in Ogden and Layton and currently lives in Farmington with his wife and 5 children. He is an identical twin and is married to an identical twin. He enjoys anything outdoors including pickleball, tennis, hiking and he loves spending time with his family and serving others.

Nate Hendriksen,

Dr. Nate Hendriksen provides audiology services including hearing and tinnitus testing as well as cerumen removal. He also performs hearing aid fittings with real-ear measurements, troubleshooting, and repairing. He is passionate about hearing conservation and provides custom hearing protection for all types of needs.

Dr. Hendriksen grew up in Salt Lake and currently lives in Kaysville with his wife and 5 children. He enjoys trying new foods, traveling, meeting new people, learning various topics, working in his yard, and spending time with his family.

Dr. Mary Leigh Horn completed her studies at the University of Utah where she earned her Doctor of Audiology degree. Her areas of expertise include cochlear implant programming, adult diagnostics and hearing aids. Mary Leigh joined the University of Utah after more than 10 years of experience working in private practices around the Wasatch Front. In her free time she enjoys outdoor activities and traveling with her family.

Kaelin Roy, AuD, CCC-A is a clinical audiologist at the University of Utah South Jordan Health Center and University of Utah Hospital. She provides services in adult diagnostics and hearing aid services including consultation, counseling, programming, and troubleshooting of devices. She is passionate about helping patients with tinnitus and is currently working on establishing a tinnitus treatment program at the University of Utah.

Dr. Roy began working at the University of Utah Hospital after completing her graduate studies at the University of Utah. In her free time she enjoys dance fitness classes, hiking, crafting, and spending time with her partner and cat.

Mr. Udy has been practicing audiology for over 20 years, and has been at the University of Utah since 2008. He has a special interest in diagnostic testing as well as fitting hearing aids and Baha and Bone Bridge devices. He graduated with his BS in Communication Disorders from University of Utah in 1995 and received his Masters degree from Utah State University in Audiology in 1998. He has been married for 27 years and has four children.

The University of Utah Hospital Audiology and Hearing Aid Services is located within the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.  Our highly-trained clinical audiologists are hearing loss specialists who work with our physicians to help you find the best hearing solutions for your hearing loss. We sell a variety of hearing aids to meet your individual needs.
