“We were referred to The Hear Center to have my 1.5 yr olds ears looked at after noticing some hearing deficits. The first appointment we had was smooth , however we were told we would need to be referred to another specialist and then return to The Hear Center. Three weeks later and the staff had not relayed any information to the PCP or requested the referral they said they needed to request. When I reached out to Phillip via email, instead of getting any type of solutions I received a condescending apology for "my confusion". The other lady I spoke to offered much more support, compassion and respect. ”
“Our family was referred to the HEAR Center after a very difficult and frustrating experience with another audiologist. We’ve had a very rough year medically with our son (who just turned two) and were feeling disappointed with the entire medical system. However, talking to the HEAR Center it was the first time in a long time I felt hopeful. Ellen was our initial contact and was incredibly patient and kind. It was the first time in a long time I felt like someone was listening, cared, and had some solutions. She walked through all [of] our options, provided stellar recommendations, and took the time to fully answer questions. I really felt like we finally had some people on our team. When our son went in to the HEAR Center for some tests, they were warm and welcoming and kind. Ellen stayed connected and involved with all the aspects of our son’s follow up which meant a lot to us. And the results were clear and understandable! What a wonderful find! We are so grateful for their help!!! They really changed our view for the better!”
“My favorite part about Hear Center is that they contribute to the good of the community. When you buy a H.A. from this non-profit, you contribute to the "pot" which helps to pay for low income clients who couldn't have gotten a hearing aid otherwise. Thanks HC for all you do for Pasadena and Los Angeles County!”
“I have had a relationship with THE HEAR CENTER for more then 20 years. My daughter had been a patient for that long as she was diagnosed when she was 5. We LOVED Hear Center. Debbie was always awesome, considerate, compassionate and willing to do whatever it takes to keep my daughter happy and hearing. I too have been diagnosed with hearing loss and am supposed to be wearing hearing aids also, but, when my daughters hearing aids broke down after 10 years, I gave her my hearing aids, and I have gotten by ever since without them. I got my original hearing aids back from my daughter. Those hearing aids are covered under a third party insurance, (ESCO), and the paperwork said I needed to go to Hear Center for maintenance issues. They wouldn’t even make an initial appointment. (I hadn’t seen them in over 10 years). They needed insurance approval first. I contacted my insurance and they sent me approval for a different audiologist, (in my approved network of providers)... I appealed and requested an approval for an OUT OF NETWORK provider.... it took almost 5 weeks to get that approval, but, finally I got it… I contacted them and they told me the codes on the authorization were incorrect... and would need to get them fixed prior to making the appointment. IT WAS THEIR POLICY... The front desk person although POLITE, showed little understanding and borderline condescending while she attempted to explain it AGAIN. I requested to speak with Debbie, as I was sure she would remember me and be able to help me, as I was only asking for them to SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT, which would probably be at least 2+ weeks, probably more? they were unwilling to schedule the appointment, while awaiting for the ‘correct code’) assuming the code was IN FACT INCORRECT, Debbie did little to help me out except to explain why they had the policy.... to which I said, ‘good day’. They lost a patient. Their inability to listen to patients, (i.e. not just give them time to speak, but rather TO LISTEN). they were in a position to not lose any money. incur no loss of time, (except the 15 minutes it took to have them state their policy three times) now, they created hardship for one patient, myself, and will get this negative review... Im not sure how much an initial hearing evaluation cost for a cash payment... I easily could have assumed that cost by my promise to pay cash. but instead, they were unwilling, unable to MAKE AN APPOINTMENT”
“My general rating of below average is because of the the various receptionist personnel. Appointment making is never easy or smooth. I have had people answer the phone with just "hello" so I did not know if I had the Hear Center. Argument about whether I could make another appointment after being told I missed an appointment. After stating that I wanted to make an appointment with a specific audiologist, put on hold and then being transferred to the general recorded message that goes through all of the information of days open, hours and then running through extension numbers for the various departments or person that you might want to talk to. The recording says to touch the extension you want but it does not allow the system to place the call until the entire list of extensions has been gone through. Debbie the general office manager has always been efficient and Joanna Navarro is an excellent audiologist and has give me excellent service. In fact I followed her to the Hear Center from the American Hearing and Balance Center because she has given me excellent service.”
