“Dear Joan- Thank you for providing feedback about your appointment back in January. But I was surprised to read this review, as both my office manager and I both remember that you gave me a hug at checkout in our reception area and thanked me for the information you received about hearing technology!
To refresh my memory, I reviewed my chart notes. I provided comprehensive audiological assessment, in order to diagnose your hearing issues, and did provide professional recommendation of treatment options. My notes indicate that I explained our fees at the start , but perhaps you were confused with your expense, because of the variety of other providers you have been to in recent years looking for a solution to your hearing issues. You told me that you had been to both retail chain stores (who cannot charge because the “tests” they do are not diagnostic and done only for the purposes of selling or fitting hearing aids). You had been to medical/ENT offices (who can file with insurance for consultation while an audiologist in private practice can only file insurance for diagnostic procedures). For over 30 years my practice has offered elite audiology services. Yes, as a licensed professional I do charge for my services, just as a dentist or optometrist would. Paying for a “professional opinion on your hearing” and “to have a complete diagnosis” only makes sense. My notes indicate that you left our office with good information, but wanted to check with family before you proceeded. I wish you had asked for clarification if you had unanswered needs or concern.
