“Age 76. Moderate to severe hearing loss. I began my hearing aid adventure at an online dispenser 12 years ago. It made a difference but the devices didn’t last that long. Next was a Costco store, this was a better experience but could it be better? Five years ago I tried my first pair of Oticon aids. Gosh it was a noticeable improvement from all prior experiences. Recently upgraded my aids to current technology. Better yet. I live a distance away and have been a well served patient and a happy customer of Dr. Brace. Knowledgeable. Caring. Accessible. Responsive. ”
“I brought my mother there. We had previously had a hearing test done for her at Ithaca College, done by the audiologist there. So we brought that results of the test with us. I mistakenly thought that there was going to be additional testing done, which there was not. So the only thing that occurred at this office visit was that the audiologist brought us in and started trying to sell us a hearing aid. We asked for information about various hearing aids and I said well is this the only brand that you have available? She said well this is the only one that is a good hearing aid, so this is the only one I'm presenting you. I was actually quite shocked. because I had expected that since Franziska Racker Center is a non-profit, that it would be more like a consultation about a variety of options, and it was not that at all. It was an attempt to sell us just these hearing aids that she was recommending. One of the reasons I came to see her was because I specifically did not want to go somewhere that was just selling, because I wanted an independent, neutral opinion on which hearing aids would work best for her. This was more of a hard sell than what we've gotten from hearing aid places that are more openly just trying to sell you a hearing aid. We expressed our concern and disappointment that the consultation was not what we expected. (We went somewhere else and later purchased a hearing aid and it's going very well.) This was a very, very unprofessional experience for us and I've actually mentioned it to several people and they were shocked as well. ”
