Abby McMahon,

Audiologist

Dr. Abby McMahon is a licensed audiologist helping patients in our Fort Collins office location. She earned her Doctorate in audiology from Northern University in Boston. Dr. McMahon holds a certificate of clinical competence in audiology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association and is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. She served on several audiology boards including the Colorado Academy of Audiology as President. She is knowledgeable in the latest technology in hearing aids and devices so she can help you choose the best solution for your hearing needs.

Tony Kovacs,
AuD, FAAA

Audiologist

Originally from Chicago, Tony moved to Colorado in 2012 to pursue his Doctorate after many years of touring as the lead vocalist in his punk rock band Shot Baker. He was recently featured in a story by NPR which highlighted his hearing conservation work with musicians. Click here for more information.

In addition to playing music and helping folks with their hearing healthcare needs, Tony enjoys hiking, paddle boarding, and camping with his wife, Lisa, and their chocolate lab, Bodhi.

Julie Prutsman,

Audiologist / Owner

Julie Prutsman, owner and founder of Sound Relief Hearing Center, is a third-generation audiology professional. Her family entered the field of hearing health care in the 1950s. Julie earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Marietta College (1996), her master’s degree in speech, language, and hearing sciences from the University of Colorado (1999), and her doctoral degree in audiology from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry’s School of Audiology (2003). Dr. Prutsman is a member of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology, American Academy of Audiology, Colorado Academy of Audiology, and American Tinnitus Association.

Julie grew up in Highlands Ranch and graduated from Highlands Ranch High School.

Kelsey Harris

Audiology Assistant

Kelsey started as the patient care coordinator at Sound Relief and has since started her doctoral studies of audiology at the University of Northern Colorado. Between classes, Kelsey continues to help by assisting the doctors as much as possible. Before moving to Colorado, she grew up in the Chicago area. When she isn’t spending time with patients, Kelsey loves being with her growing family of 10 siblings and 11 nephews and nieces. Her true passion is caring for and working with others. She also enjoys volunteering and fostering for local dog shelters, and her dog’s name is Roux. Kelsey tries to spend as much time outdoors as possible, including hiking, backpacking, camping, and kayaking.

“First, let me say that the customer service at Sound Relief Fort Collins from Dr. Tony Kovacs is super. He was instrumental in helping me make the decision to get my tinnitus under control. He quickly became my trusted partner in finding tools that actually work. I am wearing the Oticon Real hearing aids. I am using masking sounds, which is comforting and helpful in tinnitus care. After a negative and frustrating experience with another audiologist - far too much money spent and zero relief - I had basically resigned myself to a reduced quality of life with my ears (constantly, ceaselessly, maddeningly ) ringing. “I had severe tinnitus and lost 30 percent of my hearing due to a head injury. No one could help me except Dr. Abby McMahon. She is so kind and knowledgeable. “Doctor Tony Kovacs has made my life so much more enjoyable! I used to have tinnitus extreme, sounded like chainsaws in my head. After a year my tinnitus is under control, I still have light sounds but not like before. I am able to go to meetings at my work and actually hear what is being said! It was very embarrassing to speak out of turn or about something that was already covered. Now I'm able to lead meetings effectively. It has made my home life so much better as well, I now understand what my Wife says the first time instead of my old usual Huh three times! I understand my Grandkids now as well! Sound Relief Tinnitus & Hearing Center offers specialized audiology services, including tinnitus treatment, extensive diagnostic hearing testing, and solutions for decreased sound tolerance.

Hearing & speech comprehensive testing/evaluation, consists of a series of tests and inspections to assess the overall hearing health of a patient.
Tinnitus assessment, tinnitus is common and often described as a "ringing, rushing or buzzing sound in the ears". The tinnitus assessment at Sound Relief combines tinnitus-specific tests, a comprehensive audiological evaluation, and tympanometry.
Hyperacusis assessment, a hearing disorder for patients with a decreased tolerance for everyday noise/sounds at such high levels that it causes irritation, anxiety, or even physical pain.
Hearing aid evaluation, based on your test results, needs, lifestyle and budget together we will determine which hearing device will best suite you.
Hearing aid sales, rechargeable, background noise cancellation and Bluetooth streaming capability.
Custom made and fitted hearing aids, using an earmold impression of the patient's ear.
Programming of hearing aids with your full prescription.
Real Ear Measurements (REM), REMs are the gold standard in audiology for verification that the hearing aids are working as they should and providing the intended benefits inside the patient’s ear canal at the eardrum.
Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions (DPOAEs), this test measure frequencies in each ear and the audiologist interprets the results found.
Removal and management of non-Impacted and impacted Cerumen (earwax).
